Plug Line Noise

Why is my laptop making noise?
My Thinkpad T30 is making some humming noise in the telephone line when plugged into the phone jack but not connected to the internet (I use dial up). I can hear this when picking up the phone and listening to the ear piece. When I unplug the laptop the noise is gone, but when it is plugged in the noise is back. I also noticed when I have it plugged into the jack and unplug the battery charger the noise will go away. What can cause this noise??? Is it the battery, the battery charger, or is it something else like maybe the modem? Can anybody help me find this problem, and thanks for your time.
The transformer on the power cord causes electronic interference which is picked up by the speaker in the handset of the telephone. The FCC requires any speaker to pick up signals from the air, even if WE consider them interference. So until you update your modem and can move the phone away from the computer, you will continue to hear that noise. Sorry.
